Parrot Seal

This seal depicts a lively parrot that is either landing or preparing to fly from a branch. We like to think it’s one of the Telegraph Hill Parrots landing on the tree in front of our home in San Francisco. A flock of hardy and colorful parrots lives atop our hill in the North Beach neighborhood of the city, and we can’t help but be delighted by their noisy, joyous chatter when they fly near our windows. No one can be certain how these tropical birds came to live here, or how they have managed to adapt to what should be to them a hostile and foggy environment. But the flock thrives and grows larger each year.

This seal is a jewelry-quality casting in bronze from the original seal, and the wood handle is turned in beautiful and incredibly durable black walnut, lightly finished. The original seal is an antique from the late Victorian era (1885), hand-engraved in rock crystal.
